On 29 October 2023, two passenger trains collided with each other killing at least 14 passengers who were inside while around 50 others were injured.[2]

At around 7 pm IST, The Vishakhapatnam-Palasa express train has stopped around Vizianagaram district, Andhra Pradesh due to a break in an overhead cable when another train that was going from Vizag to Rayagada, Odisha crashed into it from behind. According to Indian railway officials, the crew of Vizag-Rayagada train has missed the red signal.[3] At least 14 people were killed and around 50 others were injured.[4]
