The Association Sportiva Roma, abbreviated A.Ş. Rome or simply Roma, is a club team in Rome. It was founded July 22, 1927. Among the major Italian clubs, is, along with Juventus and Lazio, one of three Italian football quoted [1].

In 83 years of history has ever attended, except on one occasion (in 1951-52), the Serie A, winning three league titles, nine Italian Cups (record of victories in the competition, shared with Juventus) and 2 Super Cups Italian. He finished the championship in second place for eleven times and five times third in 78 Serie A total of 79 played, the Roma arrived on the podium in 24.7% of occasions. After Inter, which was present in all editions, is, along with Juventus, the team that has participated in more Serie A: 78 times out of 79. In Europe the best result was winning the Fairs Cup in 1961.

The symbol of the team is the Lupa Capitolina, the emblem of the city of Rome, the split, which takes the colors from the national banner, and dark red tending to purple (Pompeian Red), edged with yellow-orange (gold or yellow ocher.) [2 ]

The main national rivals Lazio of Rome, with which we count the first citizen in the Derby della Capitale, and Juventus, the team against which the Capitoline eleven competed in the eighties to win the title, from 2006, then Adding a heated rivalry with Inter, given the presence at the top of both national teams. [3] [4] Internationally, the most heated rivalry is certainly linked to English club Liverpool, who beat on penalties in 1984 the Roma in the Champions League final in his home of yellow and red at the Stadio Olimpico. According to some surveys on the number of Roma fans for the team ranks fifth among Italian companies. It is placed behind Juventus, AC Milan, Inter and Napoli [6].

IFFHS club in the world ranking of all time (All-Time Club World Ranking), updated to December 2009, Rome is the thirteenth place, preceded only by Juventus in Italy, AC Milan and Inter, [7] while the world ranking for IFFHS club for the period July 2009 - June 2010 (Club World Ranking) puts the Roma in fifth place in the world [8].

Roma is also the only Italian team to participate without interruption since 1998, a European competition.

According to Forbes magazine, in a special report of 2008, the value of the Capital club amounted to 434 million dollars, ranking eleventh in the Rome world ranking of companies among those most valued and third Italian, after Milan and Juventus. [9] In 2010, the annual report published by Deloitte, appears to be the twelfth richest football club in Europe with a turnover of € 146.4 million, ranking the twelfth place among the European clubs, the fourth between the Italian clubs. [10 ]

AS Roma is also a member of the ECA - European Club Association, an international organization that has taken the place of the deleted G-14, and composed of the main football clubs organized in an association in order to obtain a joint protection of sports rights, legal and television in front of FIFA.
