Brent Sopel (born January 7, 1977 in Calgary, Alberta) is a professional Canadian ice hockey player that currently signed to Metallurg Novokuznetsk of the Kontinental Hockey League as a Defenceman. Sopel previously played 15 seasons in the NHL; seven seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, one season with the New York Islanders, two seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks, one season with the Atlanta Thrashers and one season with the Montreal Canadiens. He signed a 2 year contract with Metallurg Novokuznetsk of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) on July 29, 2011.
