Capital can mean:
- In geography and politics, a capital (also called capital city or political capital) is a city or town that contains the government of a country, state, or other area.
- In finance and economics, capital is how much real money a company or person has that they can use.
- In architecture, the capital is the top part of a pillar or column.
- A capital letter is another word for "uppercase" or "majuscule". THESE WORDS are written in capital letters.
- Capital punishment means that someone is put to death for doing a crime.
The word "capital" is sometimes mistaken with "capitol". A capitol is a building in which a legislature meets.
