David Haldane (born January 18, 1949) is an American writer, journalist, columnist,[1] and radio broadcaster.[2] He is known for books and essays,[3][4] about his life in the American counterculture of the 1960s.[5] He also wrote about being an expatriate living in the Philippines.[6][7] The broad theme of Haldane’s later work is finding a place to call home, both physically and spiritually. A former Los Angeles Times staff writer[8] with a writing career spanning five decades,[9] Haldane is currently a columnist for The Manila Times, the Philippines' oldest national newspaper.
Haldane was born in Long Beach, California. He holds a BA in Creative Writing from Goddard College, Plainfield, Vermont.

Haldane started as an underground reporter for the countercultural Berkeley BARB in the 1970s.[10][11] After working at the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and Riverside Press Enterprise, he joined the Los Angeles Times in 1985. He worked there for years as a staff writer.[12] He wrote about many subjects and helped with two Pulitzer Prize-winning stories. These were stories about the LA riots in 1993 and the California wildfires in 2004.[13] Haldane is also a former reporter and weekend news anchor at Z107.7 FM radio in Joshua Tree, California.[14]
