Macedonia is the name of two areas in Europe

  1. In history it was the ancient kingdom where Alexander the Great came from.
  2. The Republic of Macedonia, Greece calls this country the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and this is the name used by the UN and NATO, but not all other countries.
  3. Three of the 13 districts ("peripheries") of Greece have Macedonia in their name
    1. East Macedonia
    2. West Macedonia
    3. Central Macedonia
