Maitland is a city in New South Wales, Australia. The city is on the Hunter River. Maitland is 200 km north of Sydney and 30 km northwest of Newcastle. Maitland is sometimes called the largest city, that is not on the sea in New South Wales. The Maitland Gaol, which closed in 1998, is now a tourist attraction.[2]
