Martha Layne Collins (born Martha Layne Hall; December 7, 1936)[1] is a former American businesswoman and politician from Kentucky. As of 2014, she is the only female governor Kentucky has had. She was the fifty-sixth Governor (1983-87) after replacing John Y. Brown Jr..[2]

Collins was considered as a running mate for Democratic Presidential nominee Walter Mondale. Mondale, however, chose Geraldine Ferraro for his mate.

Layne Collins was born in Bagdad, Kentucky.
