Definition[change source]

I'm not sure our definition is right on. In any case, it needs a citation, how-ever we define the term. Surprisingly, finding a good definition from a good source is not entirely easy. Never-the-less, I recommend we use the definition in Facing up to the American Dream: https://books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=PTF0mlZE26AC&oi=fnd&pg=PP1&dq=american+dream&ots=nHGsbuUzIj&sig=ItaTQY6GujlNemMzPsPgsp6gXck#v=onepage&q=american%20dream&f=false, e.g., p. 18, quoting an American president. Great Gatsby[change source]

"This was easier in the 1900s and now it is really hard to achieve the American dream because of all the competition and hard work required to achieve this dream. This is also shown in The Great Gatsby." This is poorly worded (actually self-contradictory): Fitzgerald's novel was published in 1925. "Now" is in the 21st century. The novel is a classic example of the concept, so it is nice to include, but some-thing ahs to change. Kdammers (talk) 18:54, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
