needs a good example[change source]

The definition is good, but the example was not. It was:

  • A good example of this is SOS. The letters for this abbreviation were chosen for how easy they are to send in Morse Code, but were then later decided by some people to mean "Save Our Souls".

But an acronym is "a word whose letters are the first letters of other words". "SOS" is not a word: we don't say it like "sauce", we always spell "S O S", saying it like "ess oh ess".
