i believe the mass and volume figures are expressed incorrectly (i.e. the mass of jupiter is not .025 earths).

Let me tell you what, there is a difference between mass and volume. Volume is about how many stuff can be held in a bigger object, that can fit in it. For example, on Wikipedia, it tells that Jupiter can hold 1321 earths inside it. Jupiter is the biggest object besides The sun in our solar system. Mass is different-it is about how much mass a body has. For example, on Wikipedia, it tells that Jupiter is more than 11 times more massive than the Earth.
