modes in music is about stuff

When I first started reading this, I thought it was clear, but as I read on, I got all confused. If modes are just scales and scales are, per Simple English Wikipedia, " a set of notes in order of their pitch," then what is the talk about white-keys only? Isn't almost all Western music (jazz perhaps aside) modal (I assume that 'modal' means generally following the notes of the give scale)? If so, then what is the reason for saying that folksongs are often modal? 37.99.61.154 (talk) 10:46, 26 January 2019 (UTC)
