[change] Weird paragraph

"Shinto was the main religion of Japan before World War II. Many practices of Shinto are not done in Japan today, and some are still done every day, but they are not meant to be religious actions."

This is nearly incomprehensible to me; I don't get it at all.

During WWII, there was "State Shinto."

But Shinto itself has alway been there, and is still there today, quite alive and humming. I don't understand the "not meant to be religious actions" (if they are not now, were they ever?) and I don't understand what's different about today vs. 100 years ago.

It's always been "Shinto." (Actually, before it was "Shinto," a term which arose during the introduction of Buddhism, it was simply the disorganized omnipresent animism.)

If I were to edit this, I'd talk about something entirely different. I'd talk about how Shinto is part of the connections between Shinto, Buddhism, Taoism, and Confucianism, and I'd say that the rule of thumb is "Shinto is for birth and life, Buddhism for death."
