IPA?

Why not use IPA instead of the silly approximations here?

Because this is 'Simple' English. Do you really think that people who use the Simple English Wikipedia are going to be able to understand IPA?! Xxglennxx (talk) 01:28, 8 August 2009 (UTC)

I realise that this is an old topic, but it's not so clear to me that people using Simple English Wikipedia can't use the IPA. In many countries it's taught pretty early on in English courses. The real problem is that the approximations on this page (and elsewhere) aren't really much better. Garik (talk) 16:30, 14 April 2013 (UTC)
