Talk:Yom Kippur War

"Egyptian victory" on Simple wiki, but "Israeli victory" in English Wikipedia. I think it's a bit more complicated, as the article makes clear. The war ended because of international pressure, in particular because the tensions between the US and Soviet Union were reaching a dangerous point. The fighting stopped, armies pulled back, and eventually negotiations restored some stability. Questions for anyone who might read this talk page: can we have a different result for the war between different English-language wikis, and - maybe we can nuance it a little? I don't think it's a clear victory for either side. Antandrus (talk) 02:10, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

i'd say neither side won militarily but egypt definitely won politically Ali36800 (talk) 19:39, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

the war ended in a stalemate[change source]

there are a lot of sources to support the fact that the war did indeed end in a stalemate

source: Al Jazeera's article on the October Arab-Israeli War of 1973 states that "the counterattack majorly turned the tide of the war in favor of the Israelis, and the fighting came to a stalemate"

source: The National Security Archive, a research institute and library located at The George Washington University, refers to "Airlifts, Battlefield Stalemates, and Oil Threats" in a document related to the October War and U.S. Policy

source: The Jewish Virtual Library, a comprehensive online resource about Jewish history, politics and culture, mentions that "the war ended in a military stalemate"
source: The Encyclopaedia Britannica states that "the war ended in a military stalemate, with Israel managing to push the invading forces back but suffering heavy losses"
source: The History Channel's website notes that "the war ended in a stalemate, with both sides claiming victory"
source: The BBC's overview of the Yom Kippur War mentions that "the war ended in a stalemate, with both sides suffering heavy losses"
source:The Chronikler article titled "How Egypt clutched political victory from the jaws of military stalemate" emphasizes that the 1973 Arab-Israeli war is widely regarded as a military victory in Egypt, despite ending in a stalemate and near defeat. The article discusses the significance of the war and its impact on Egypt's ruling junta and the return of occupied Egyptian territory

so we should put that it was a military stalemate, with an egyptian political victory, Egypt's crossing of the Suez Canal and the subsequent realignment of power in the region are cited as political victories, does anyone disagree? why or why not Ali36800 (talk) 19:16, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Considering so many sources say there was an Israeli victory, I wouldn't say there was an Egyptian victory, or at least not a definitive one like the multiple IPs tried to push. LilianaUwU (talk / changes) 19:32, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
uhh, there are also multiple sources that say it was an egyptian victory so what's your point?? Ali36800 (talk) 19:34, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know anything about the war, to be honest, I'm just here to make sure every wiki is consistent with each other. LilianaUwU (talk / changes) 19:44, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
hmm, i would study more about the war, using a wide variety of sources, and then come back to make a decision, that's my suggestion Ali36800 (talk) 22:55, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
let me put it to you straight
Result: Egyptian victory
  • Military stalemate
  • Egyptian political victory
  • Egypt ultimately regains full control of the sinai peninsula
  • Military stalemate on Syrian front
  • 1978 Camp David accords
what about that do you disagree with?? Ali36800 (talk) 19:34, 9 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
