Tom Harkin (born November 19, 1939) is an American politician for the Democratic Party. In 1985 he became the junior Senator in Iowa.[1] He also served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1975 to 1985.

In 2013 Harkin said he would retire from the Senate after completing his fifth term in 2015.[2]
