Trevor McDonald

Sir Trevor McDonald OBE (born George McDonald on 16 August 1939) is a British journalist. He was ITN's first black journalist.[1]

Sir Trevor McDonald was born on 16 August 1939 in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago. In 1969, he was employed by the BBC Radio as a producer aged 30, based in London but still broadcasting to the Caribbean.

In 1973, he joined the ITV News Corporation, initially as a general reporter, later as a sports correspondent before concentrating in international politics. In the 1980s, he presented the ITN-produced Channel 4 News before returning back to ITV News in 1989 for the early evening news.

In 1992, McDonald became the presenter of the ITV News at Ten. In 1999 the programme ended. In 1999 Tonight with Trevor McDonald started on ITV. In 2007 McDonald stopped presenting the programme. It is now simply called Tonight.

McDonald made occasional guest appearances in the 1970s children's comedy show Tiswas with Lenny Henry next to him during a performance of McDoughnut.

In September 2020, McDonald split from his wife Josephine after 34 years.
