Joseph Strauss (January 9, 1870 – May 16, 1938) was an American structural engineer who is most known for designing the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Joseph Strauss was born in Cincinatti, Ohio in 1870, and grew up writing and reading poetry. His mother played the piano and his father was a painter and a writer. [1] In 1892, Strauss graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in civil engineering. He was the class president.
