BlackCab was an active member of Jehovah's Witnesses for more than 20 years. He chose to stop attending meetings of the religion in 2008. He has since collected many books about the religion written by scholars and historians that explain much more than the religion's own official publications. He uses many of those books as sources of information that can be trusted when editing Wikipedia articles about the religion. He believes that anyone wanting to know about an organisation should be able to read and use information from writers other than just the ones who work for that organisation. He therefore uses books that are written by both the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society—but also books written by people who have either left the religion, or have just studied it to learn more about it.
