Welcome[change source]

Hello! I am assuming you have come over from the English Wikipedia, so you are probably familiar with the way this wiki works. I hope you like it here and decide to stay. Here are a few links to help you adjust:

There is much to do here. For example, there are a lot of articles that do not exist yet, which you can bring over from the English Wikipedia and simplify. Do have a look around and see what you would like to do. Thank you for joining us, and you know how to contact me if you need help. Etamni | ✉   22:17, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • Please don't just revert vandalism. Place an appropriate notice on their talk pages from the choice on WP:User talk page warnings. It's important that such editors know we are watching what they do. Also, our (usually) progressive system of warnings depends on different trusted editors contributing. The system benefits us all. Thank you. Macdonald-ross (talk) 06:33, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not one to tell people off for what they do, and I thought it's usually the staff that deals with this sort of thing, not everyone including normal users like. Plus, I'm not on this as much and that I personally think vandals don't even care about the warnings they get, let alone of getting blocked. BrydoF1989 (talk) 14:39, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I found this by accident, but wanted to clarify a couple things. You are probably right that many vandals don't care about warnings -- although they do seem to complain a lot when they get blocked -- but the purpose of the warnings is to advise those who are just messing around that what they do affects others and is noticed, as well as to provide fair notice before they get blocked. As for "the staff" dealing with vandals, the volunteer editors -- you, me, Macdonald-ross, and all of the others who watch the site -- are the staff, in that the Foundation that financially supports the site does not have the manpower to patrol for vandalism on all of the hundreds of sites they fund, so they rely on the volunteers here to self-manage the day-to-day edits and vandalism that happens. In a moment, I'm going to add a "welcome" message (which will appear at the top of this page) that will give you some useful links. Etamni | ✉   22:14, 27 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
As I said to Macdonald-ross, I'm not on this as much, not do I do make much edits/new pages either. Same for the English Wikipedia even though I joined there way back eleven years ago (although did more contributions then, just until the second half of 2009).
