The Bourne Identity(film,2002)

<The Bourne Identity> is the action spy movie which is based on the novel of the writer Robert Ludlum ,”The Bourne Identity,” which was published in 1908 and sold 5 millions copies. It was also produced for film once in 1988. This movie deals with the story that after the main character (Jason Bourne) recovered his gunshot wound, he noticed he lose his memory, and on finding his memory, he was getting involved by international spy agency. The director Doug Liman produced this movie, and famous Hollywood star Matt Damon was starred as main character.With some European places such as Prague, Paris, and Italy as backgrounds of the movie, this movie shows thrilling gunfight and car chasing and action scenes which is suitable to summer season. After releasing, the box-office record was successful. The sequel <The Bourne Supremacy> and <The Bourne Ultimatum> were also released in 2004 and 2007.

One unidentified man is rescued by fishers from the sea, but because of amnesia, he can’t remember why he was drowned into the sea, how the gunshot wound on his back was made, and how great foreign language ability and skilled martial arts which are unconsciously come out belong to him. He only know his Swiss bank safe number which was hidden from his skin, so with the number, he found huge amount of cash and passports for each countries. He saw the name “Jason Bourne” from his US passport and he believes that is his name. After he has some trouble at US embassy in Zurich, he moves to Paris with the help of Marie Kreutz (another main character). Wherever he moves to, the police and assassinators chase him and Marie. In continuous chasing between Bourne and killer, he notices that some unknown big power threaten his existence. To find his identity and the reason why they try to kill him, Bourne, he gradually accesses the unknown agency.

After the movie was released in the U.S., the movie got generally positive reviews from several critics, especially for the acting of Matt Damon and the direction of Doug Liman. Peter Howell[1] of Toronto Star mentioned the movie, “An entertaining thriller that eschews most of the usual spy gimmicks in favour of old-fashioned sleuthing.” Eric Harrison[2] of Houston Chronicle praised about direction of Liman, “The Bourne Identity shouldn’t he half as entertaining as it is, but director Doug Liman and his colleagues have managed to pack it with enough action to satisfy the boom-bam crowd without a huge sacrifice of character and mood,” and Matt Damon also got praise from Stephen Hunter[3] of Washington Post, “Great fights. You wouldn’t think of Damon as a tough guy, but he’s worked really hard on the physical stuff here and it shows.
