Contact[change source]

Moved from Talk:Noisy miner at 15:25, 11 December 2015 (UTC). This topic is more appropriate on your personal talk page than on the talk page of that article. StevenJ81 (talk)

I want to contact the primary organisers of Wikipedia

I'm a ex-newspaper computer and communications columnist in Australia, and the author of a 700 page encyclopedia of computer and communications terms -- "The Informatics Handbook" published jointly with Chapman & Hall in UK (1990). I still have the original material on 3.5-inch floppies, and thought that Wikipedia could make use of it in some way.

Can you give me a high level contact in the organisation ?

(I assume you are referring to this publication—ISBN 9781461520931—or at least an earlier edition.)
The Wikimedia Foundation runs Wikipedia and its sister projects. Its organizational wiki is this one. That's the place you can probably find high-level contacts in the organization. (I'm a Yank, sorry for the spelling.)
However, what I can tell you up front is this:
  • I highly doubt that any Wikimedia project can or will use anything you have unless it is fully in the public domain.
  • Even if you own that original material on floppies outright, and even if you agree to a fully free license of it, you may have to show that what you have does not interfere with the publisher's interest in the copyright of the publication.
I suspect you know more about how all that works than I do, truthfully. It may also be that someone like User:Peterdownunder can help you more with navigating these waters on Wikimedia projects than I can. But I hope that's a helpful start. StevenJ81 (talk) 18:06, 9 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The book is listed by Amazon still, at a ridiculous price of $199. They also have added a fake date of October 4 2013 when the book was actually written in 1989-1990 and published in 1990. The material is way out of date, and only really now of historical interest because it was relevant in the earlier days of computing. The copyright is mine since this was a copublishing deal with a now defunct company called Chapman & Hall. I prepared the final material full-laid out ready for printing.
I will contact the head-office and see if they can use it. I'm not looking for any payment.

Question on your user page[change source]

To change your account name, you have to go to Meta-Wiki (m:Steward requests/Username changes) to change your account name. To change your email address, go to "My settings" and scroll down the page. StevenJ81 (talk) 16:35, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I see you got the name change done. Excellent! Please note: it's still better to sign your name with tildes than to type out your name, because that way it generates the link to your user page and talk page. Take care ... StevenJ81 (talk) 22:43, 23 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
