Do we need this nowadays?[change source]

I think not because:

1) Source is 20th century e.g. "phonograph" is no longer a common word

2) Most non-native English speakers don't have a native language which is "Western" (I suppose Ogden meant Romance and Germanic) Chidgk1 (talk) 18:30, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes we do need this, this is the main purpose of this wiki and why we exist. To write in simple english and we try to use the words from the various simple lists such as this one when we are referring to items in the list. -Djsasso (talk) 19:40, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
But aren't the other lists much better than this one? I don't know which other lists are used here. Chidgk1 (talk) 16:33, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
None that have the backing of scientific research. This is pretty much the gold standard. -Djsasso (talk) 17:07, 9 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe this list was backed by scientific research when it was made - I don't know - but English has obviously changed a lot since then. What are some other "various simple lists" used here please? Chidgk1 (talk) 19:14, 17 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
