Skin whitening, skin lightening and skin bleaching is a technique of making someones skin lighter by lowering melanin responsible for dark skin. Some chemicals in form of pills and injections are available. Some of those chemicals can be toxic and even cause a cancer. Some controversy about impact on certain ethnic groups have been pointed.
Most skin lightening treatments are done to moles and birthmarks, but lightening unaffected skin parts is also possible.[1] More and more people use such a treatments thanks to dropping price and better availability.[2]
The new methods using both lasers and LED systems are showing good results and are possible alternative to chemicals.[3]
