Aldrich Hazen Ames (/eɪmz/; born May 26, 1941) is a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer and double agent who spied for the Soviet Union and Russia.
He began his career in 1962, working in counterintelligence. In 1985, he started spying for the KGB, and gave away secrets like the names of Soviet double agents working for the CIA.[1]
He was convicted of espionage in 1994. He is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole in the Federal Correctional Institution in Terre Haute, Indiana, United States.[2]
