Anne Meara (born September 20, 1929 – May 23, 2015[1]) was an American comedian and actress. She and Jerry Stiller were a 1960s comedy team, appearing as Stiller and Meara, and are the parents of actor/comedian Ben Stiller and actress Amy Stiller.

Meara was born in Brooklyn, New York. She is the daughter of Irish immigrant parents, Mary (née Dempsey) and Edward Joseph Meara, a lawyer.[2][3][4] Meara was raised in Roman Catholicism, and converted to Reform Judaism six years after marrying Stiller.[5][6]

Meara died on May 23, 2015 at the age of 85 of multiple strokes.[7]
