Bill Tarmey (born William Piddington GBE; 4 April 1941 – 9 November 2012)[1] was an English actor, singer, author, and comedian best known for playing Jack Duckworth in soap opera Coronation Street. First playing the role in 1979, he played the role regularly from 1983 to 2010.

Tarmey was born 4 April 1941 in Ardwick, Manchester, England. He was married to Alma Tarmey from 1962 until his death in 2012. They had a son and daughter. Tarmey died on the morning of 9 November 2012 in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain from a heart attack[2], aged 71.
