There may be a pedal to sustain or dampen the sound. [[Tchaikovsky]]'s ''[[Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy]]'' from ''[[The Nutcracker]]'' is probably the most famous piece of music written for the celesta. 'Celeste' means "heavenly" in French.
