Background[change | change source]

Sophy got his Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences from Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1982. He finished his medical studies at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1986. After that, he did his internship and family practice residency at the Metropolitan Hospital/Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Pennsylvania. He also completed his residency in adult psychiatry at Norristown State Hospital in Philadelphia.[5] Sophy was the doctor for Elliot Rodger, who carried out the 2014 Isla Vista killings. Sophy gave him a prescription for a medicine called Risperidone. However, after looking up information about it online, Rodger decided not to take it. He also stopped going to see Sophy by the autumn of 2013.[6][7][8]
