EEPROM

EEPROM (also E²PROM) stands for electrically erasable programmable read-only memory and is a type of non-volatile memory used in computers, integrated in smart cards and remote keyless systems. It is a read-only memory (ROM) whose data can be erased and reprogrammed by higher than normal currents of electricity.

EEPROM or other kinds of ROM may be used when booting a computer to perform a power-on self test and other functions.
