Object history Vor Mitte des 14. Jahrhunderts entstand das 1374 erstmals bezeugte älteste Siegel. Es war vermutlich eine Folge der Erweiterung der Freiheitsrechte durch Kaiser Ludwig den Bayern des schon 1281 als Markt erwähnten Ortes. Das Sinnbild war stets der halbe Löwe, der wohl eine Minderung des pfalz-bayerischen Löwen darstellt; im Schild zeigen ihn sämtliche Siegel seit etwa 1500 bis heute in nahezu unveränderter Gestaltung. Die Feldfarbe war den vielen Wiedergaben des Wappens seit 1565 zufolge ursprünglich blau. Fahne der Stadt: schwarz-gold.
