Description
[change | change source]Geffen Records is an American record label, owned by Universal Music Group. It was made in 1980 by David Geffen. It is worked as one third of UMG's Interscope-Geffen-A&M label group.
They are home to popular artists or groups such as Nirvana, KATSEYE, Guns N' Roses, and Elton John, and modern stars such as Olivia Rodrigo.
They are also most known for their recent partnership with HYBE Entertainment, forming the now successful and renowned group KATSEYE. A second, 4-member group is scheduled for 2026, featuring three (3) former Dream Academy contestants, Emily, Samara, and Lexie, with the final member being selected through a new ABEMA survival series.[1]
Background
[change | change source]Following the 1998 merger of PolyGram and Universal Music Group [UMG], Geffen Records underwent a substantial structural reorganization. In early 1999, the label was folded into the newly formed Interscope Geffen A&M (IGA) group. This transition marked the end of Geffen as a fully independent powerhouse and the beginning of its life as a major frontline imprint within a "mega-label" structure.
