Hartford, Illinois

Hartford is a village in Madison County, Illinois, United States, near the mouth of the Missouri River. The population was 1,185 at the 2020 census.[1] Lewis and Clark spent the winter of 1803-1804 here, near what has been designated the Lewis and Clark State Historic Site.

Underground gas leakage[change | change source]

Since multiple oil refineries have been in the area for lots of years, An estimate of 4 million gallons of gasoline have leaked into the ground below. The village filed a lawsuit on July 21 2008, for all the parties that were there.
