Hero of Ukraine is the highest national decoration that can be given to an individual citizen by the President of Ukraine.

President Leonid Kuchma created the decoration in 1998. As of 25 February 2024, there have been 873 awards. Additionally, at least 20 decrees assigning it have not been published.

There are two types of Hero of Ukraine. Civilians get the Order of the State (Ukrainian: Орден Держави). Military people get the Order of the Gold Star (Ukrainian: Орден «Золота Зірка»).

Belarusian Mykhailo Zhyznevskyi was the first foreigner to get the decoration in June 2017.[1]
