Hugh Gaitskell

Hugh Gaitskell (1906-1963) was a British politician, and leader of the Labour Party 1955-63. He was also Chancellor of the Exchequer under Clement Attlee. He read PPE at New College, University of Oxford. After an academic career at University College London he became the MP for Leeds South in 1945.
