The Honourable Edward Kamau Brathwaite, CHB (/kəˈm ˈbræθwt/; 11 May 1930 – 4 February 2020)[1] was a Barbadian poet and academic. He was thought to be one of the major voices in the Caribbean literary canon.[2] He was a professor of Comparative Literature at New York University.

Brathwaite was the 2006 International Winner of the Griffin Poetry Prize, for his poem Born to Slow Horses.[3]
