He is best known for his book ''[[The Wind in the Willows]]'' (1908). The Mr. Toad story from the movie ''[[The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad]]'' (1949) is based off ''The Wind in the Willows''. He also wrote the [[short story]] ''[[The Reluctant Dragon]]'' (1898), which was made into a [[The Reluctant Dragon (movie)|movie]] in 1941. Grahame was born in [[Edinburgh]]. He married Elspeth Thomson in 1899. Their son, Alastair, was born in 1900 and had health issues during his life.
