Masculine gender

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Masculine gender is a grammatical gender that is present in all languages that have the grammatical category. It applies usually to animate objects of the male gender, but it is also often used with inanimate and, in some cases, animate nouns of the female gender.[1]

For example, Italian has the masculine nouns uomo ("man", masculine animate), desco ("soprano", inanimate) and soprano ("dinner", feminine animate).
