Nichelle Nichols (born Grace Dell Nichols; December 28, 1932 – July 30, 2022) was an American actress, singer and voice artist. She was known for her role as Uhura in the sci-fi television series Star Trek: The Original Series.[1]

In May 2018, Nichols' son, Kyle Johnson, announced that she was suffering from "severe" short-term memory loss as a complication of advanced dementia.[2][3]

On July 30, 2022, Nichols died of heart failure at a hospital in Silver City, New Mexico at the age of 89. [4][5]
