Officer is a railway station in the suburb of Officer, Melbourne. Melbourne is in the state of Victoria in Australia. The station serves Pakenham line trains and the Pakenham line is part of Melbourne's suburban train network. The station is located in myki Zone 2.

Officer is well known for being one of the least visited train stations in the metro trains (suburban) network.

History

In 1877, the railway line was lengthened from Dandenong station to Pakenham station. Four years later, Officer station opened on 4 August 1981. This station opened as Officer's Siding. Officer was given its current name on 13 February 1888.

The train station was either named after a local man named Robert Officer or from a family in New South Wales. The new and current station was built east of the old one in 1956.

Officer was the second least used station on Melbourne's rail network in 2011 and 2012. Only 55,000 people ever used it. In 2022-2023, Officer had 127000 people using it.

In 2021, the Level Crossing Removal Project proposed closing the Station Street level crossing. In 2024, the level crossing was pulled down. Furthermore, the road was closed forever. However, pedestrians can still cross using new gates next to Officer station.

Platforms

There are not many things at Officer station, other than myki readers for you to scan your myki card on and a big parking lot. Officer is unmanned; there are no Metro Trains staff here.

Officer has two side platforms. The only way to get from one to the other is to cross the pedestrian level crossing mentioned earlier. The station itself is old and has stayed that way since the early 1980s.
