Philaret (Vakhromeyev)

Metropolitan Philaret (Russian: Митрополит Филарет, Belarusian: Мітрапаліт Філарэт, born Kirill Varfolomeyevich Vakhromeev, Russian: Кирилл Варфоломеевич Вахромеев; 21 March 1935 – 12 January 2021) was a Russian-born Belarusian Orthodox prelate.[1] He was Metropolitan of Minsk and Slutsk from 1978 to 2013 and Leader of the Belarusian Orthodox Church from 1978 to 1989.

In 2006, for his work in the Russian Orthodox Church he was awarded the title Hero of Belarus by President Alexander Lukashenko.[2]

Philaret died on 12 January 2021 in Minsk, Belarus at the age of 85.[3]
