Question about this person[change source]

Is he really Japanese ? His name sounds like Chinese rather than Japanese. Does anyone know the kanji description ? For example 劉長春 can be read as Choshun Ryu or Ryu Choshun in Japanese (in Chinese, this is read as Liu Changchun). I would like to know if this page is related to en:Liu Changchun. Also remind that Japan before WW2 includes occupied territories, so not all Japanese representatives have Japanese name and ethnicity. MathXplore (talk) 09:32, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Choshun Ryu's birth date, as found here does not match Liu Changchun's birth date as found in Enwiki. Liu represented China, as shown in this document (romanized as Cheng-chun Liu). — *Fehufangą✉ Talk page 09:54, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MathXplore: with multiple achievement over many years (Asian record, Far Eastern Champion, marathon achievements) with references in different sources including a databases and newspaper we can be sure it’s not wrong he was Japanese representing the Japanese Empire. It might be he had Chinese roots. However, I can’t find any information about his family. SportsOlympic (talk) 11:12, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Have you found any information where he was born ? I would like to know the prefecture that he came from. MathXplore (talk) 11:14, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@MathXplore: next to his races in South Korea and the Philippines, I only see races of him in Tokyo. So or he lived in that area, or the important competitions took place there (or both). While he was the fastest Asian athlete in his era in the 10000m and marathon, he never became Japanese national champion (See en:Template:Japan Championships in Athletics men's 10,000 metres champions and en:Template:Japan Championships in Athletics men's marathon champions). An it appears the championships were not held those years in Tokyo, see at the Japanese wiki ja:日本陸上競技選手権大会. Unfortunately, there are no full results of the Japanese national championships at the Japanese wiki. So I didn’t found his name in nigogo/kanji. @Fehufanga:, thanks for his profile page. I didn’t see that one. I added his date of birth to the article. SportsOlympic (talk) 11:17, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
