Talk:Harmonic

1. I have changed my description to simpler (perhaps not SIMPLE!) English, partly by using more links to explain my terms.

2. Harmonics plural, please!. I am certain the title should be plural, "Harmonics", because the singular can apply to any subject such as "harmonic colours" or "harmonic sounds" or "harmonic ideas", etc. Eg, in both the Penguin Physics dictionary and the Science dictionary, the term is plural harmonics. This comment also applies to Interharmonics, please. The latter is defined in some (I forget the specific) dictionary in the IEEE website.

3. General Comment. I find it difficult to use simpler English to describe wave motion harmonics and interharmonics. These are not simple things, like apples. The category is science, including the art and science of musicology, and is mathematics-based. Any description must EITHER be very long, to use simple English, OR shorter by using non-simple English. Philosophically, I don't think an encyclopedia can include scientific material unless it uses common scientific terms, each of which may be defined elsewhere (in the encyclopedia or the dictionary). Perhaps the whole idea of simple English for science is a mission impossible, without using such convoluted descriptions as to defeat the aim of clear concise description. ralph 15:25, 9 May 2006 (UTC)ralph 16:07, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
