Imputed "Impoverishment" of India under British[change source]

The account of how India went from a rich country to a poor one is just silly. In fact, its GDP was slightly greater at independence than it had been, but its proportion in the world was much smaller because the rest of the world had grown since 1700. In 1700 the US did not exist, and there had been no industrial revolution in the UK, which ruined the English hand-loom industry by reducing costs enormously, as well as knocking the Indian one.
