Untitled[change source]

I plan to work on the articles with red links (except perhaps linear mapping). (However I am a very slow worker :)). I linked parameter to parameter even though it did not really match up. Feel free to simplify without discussion. Also, the images are all mine, so if you think something needs to be changed, mention it here. I did not think this an appropriate place for equations of lines, i.e. the equation of a line passing through two points is:... There are 5-10 of these in 2d and then in 3d and above. Any suggestions for an article title or maybe in line. I can write this in Simple talk if appropriate.Lfahlberg (talk) 17:54, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"Based on"[change source]

This article is co-based originally on my article in the MK wikipedia [1] and then the article which I originated in the English wikipedia that was subsequently correctly amended by another editor to include constant functions as a subset (as is it here). It was however incorrectly re-titled [2] since linear functions are first explained in 6th-8th grade depending on the country. (The article in the English wikipedia with the title [3] is not a good link as its content has changed several times (nothing to do with me) from a bare mention of the basic definition (current) to completely deleting it.)Lfahlberg (talk) 18:49, 3 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not move this page[change source]

Although the enwiki page is at en:Linear function (calculus), I think this page should stay at Linear function, for several reasons:

  1. Students learn about linear functions years before they learn about calculus, and many readers of the Simple page have not learned about calculus yet. They would know the topic from middle school/high school algebra.
  2. This disambiguation is used to distinguish it from en:Linear map. A linear map is more often called a linear map than a linear function, so it shouldn't cause too much confusion.
  3. There is already a link in the first paragraph of this article to Linear map.
  4. The idea of a linear function is a prerequisite to understanding linear functions, so that page is kind of an extension of this one.
