I used the Scientific American under the sub-policy en:WP:NEWSBLOG, which is part of WP:V. It's enough to show that the subject is real and not a prank, but that's all I'm expecting it to do. On en.wiki, the rule for that is "If the blog is published by a reliable source (like Scientific American magazine) then it's not as reliable as that souce's regular articles but it's not automatically unreliable.
