This is not accurate and should be rewritten. Pure mathematics is mathematics. Specifically, it is the foundation of all math, and a proof is where it begins. All a proof is is a set of logical steps. We could not posit about math in a scientific way if we did not lay down axioms from which we get theorems. This makes the concept of proof essential in showing that our assumptions and logic are correct. If they are not, we wouldn't be able to proceed further in this science. For if we don't know if something is true, how can train of thought coming after be of any use at all? If pure math is useless, then certainly quantum mechanics was too. As is all of physics, chemistry, and all of science.
