Task force

A task force of aircraft carriers and other ships, in the context of Operation Enduring Freedom, after the September 11 attacks.

A task force is a way of organizing people: It is a group of people who have been put together to perform a specific task, or to solve a specific problem. After the task is done, or the problem is solved, the task force will again be disbanded. Usually, the task force is small. It is composed of different specialists, each person is a specialist in one domain.

The word was first used by the U.S. Navy. Today, it is used in many organisations and companies.
