Template:The Interviews name/doc

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template generates links to specific people's interviews at the website The Interviews: An Oral History of Television. It should only be used in an article's "other websites" section.

To link to interviews mentioning a specific person, use {{The Interviews people}}. To link a specific television program, use {{The Interviews title}}.

Usage[change source]

The required parameter is the ID text. The template then uses the article title as the anchor text:

* {{The Interviews name | ID }}
* {{The Interviews name | id = ID }}

To have the link text be other than the article name, use second parameter:

* {{The Interviews name | ID | Name }}
* {{The Interviews name | id = ID | name = Name }}

Instructions[change source]

  1. Go to interviews.televisionacademy.com/search and search for the desired interview
  2. Follow the link to go to the person's page. Be sure the page has /interviews/ in its URL; these are the pages with interviews of the person. Pages with /people/ list interviews where that person is mentioned by others.
  3. Follow the link to go to the person's page
  4. The URL will look like this: https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/interviews/<!-- ID -->. Copy the part of the url which is substituted here with <!-- ID -->. This will be the first parameter (or id=).
  5. Add the person's name in the next parameter (or name=) if it is different from the page name.
  6. Add one of the following to the external links section of the article:
* {{The Interviews name | id= <<!-- ID --> }}
* {{The Interviews name | <!-- ID --> }}
* {{The Interviews name | id= <!-- ID --> | name= <!-- name --> }}
* {{The Interviews name | <!-- ID --> | <!-- name --> }}

This can be used when the Wikipedia page name contains disambiguation brackets; for example at the page Robert Butler (director) use {{The Interviews name|robert-butler|Robert Butler}} to have "Robert Butler at The Interviews: An Oral History of Television" rather than "Robert Butler (director) at The Interviews: An Oral History of Television". This is also necessary should you need to add an interview link to an article about somebody or something other than the linked person (for example, if you include the link for Steve Allen in the Meeting of Minds article, you must specify "Steve Allen" as the text for the link using this option).

Example[change source]

  1. Copy and paste one of the options above into the article
  2. Go to interviews.televisionacademy.com and search for the person you want (say, Dick Cavett; you'll reach https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/people/dick-cavett)
  3. Copy only the text after /people/ (here, "dick-cavett")
  4. Replace "ID" in the template code with the text
    1. For the first option above, you'll then have * {{The Interviews name | dick-cavett }}. When used on the page Dick Cavett, the result will be:
      Note that the link text is the same as the title of the page the template is used on; outside the page "Dick Cavett", use the second option:
    2. Replace "ID" with the text taken from the URL and "Name" with "Dick Cavett"
      * {{The Interviews name | dick-cavett | Dick Cavett }} results in:
