Why is el greek? Why not gr? --Mukkakukaku (talk) 04:19, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"el" is the ISO 639 code for the Greek language. The codes are often (but not always) based on the language's own name for itself; for example, German is Deutsch, and its ISO code is "de". The Greek language's word for itself is "Ελληνικά"; in the international phonetic alphabet, "λ" is represented with an "L", hence "el". Now you know, and knowing is half the battle. ;) EVula // talk // // 04:59, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, that makes sense. I was just confused, seeing how Ancient Greek is "grc". Thanks. --Mukkakukaku (talk) 05:05, 27 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
